Community Guidelines
VentAbout works because people tell the truth. These guidelines exist to keep it that way: fair, factual, and worth reading.
Do
- ✓Be specific. "They took 11 weeks to issue my refund despite three written requests" is far more powerful than "they're terrible."
- ✓Stick to facts. Your opinion is valid, but make sure the facts back it up. Describe what happened, when, and what was said or done.
- ✓Focus on the organisation. Name the company, employer, or organisation. Describe what they did, not who did it.
- ✓Be honest about your role. Tell us whether you were a customer, employee, or supplier. Context matters.
Don't
- ✕Name private individuals. Don't identify managers, colleagues, staff, or anyone else by name. Describe their role and what they did.
- ✕Exaggerate. Embellishing your story undermines your credibility and ours. If it's true, say it plainly.
- ✕Post personal data. No phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, or any other personal information belonging to others.
- ✕Post the same vent twice. Duplicate vents will be removed. One strong, detailed vent is better than five thin ones.
- ✕Use VentAbout to settle personal scores. Vents must relate to a genuine organisational complaint, not disputes with individuals in a personal context.
A note for employees
We especially protect employee voices. Your real name is never shown. Only your username, which you control, is visible to others. When describing workplace issues, focus on behaviour, decisions, and their impact. Do not identify colleagues or managers by name, even if you think they deserve it. Describe the role and what happened. That’s what makes a vent credible and actionable.
Reporting and enforcement
Any logged-in user can flag a vent they believe breaks these guidelines. Flagged vents are reviewed and may be removed. Accounts that repeatedly post content in breach of these guidelines will be suspended.
If your vent was removed and you believe it was a mistake, email us at hello@ventabout.comand we’ll take another look.
The spirit of it:If your vent would embarrass you if it turned out to be false, don’t post it. If it’s true, factual, and you’d stand behind every word, that’s exactly what VentAbout is for.
